The 2021 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans saw the introduction of the new "Hypercar" class, pitting Toyota Gazoo Racing's GR010 hybrid against conventionally-powered Alpine and Glickenhaus cars. Alongside the hypercars there was a full-grid of 25 LMP2 cars, 8 LM GTEPro and 23 LMGTE Am cars. The shift of dates to August meant the weather may well play more of a part than in June, but with a full testing schedule already completed and the grid bursting with talent, there was every chance of a thrilling race, right down to the last few laps.

Toyota’s unique brand of luck came to the fore once again at the 2019 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Although the race finished with a 1-2 for the Toyota Gazoo Racing team, the finishing order saw a dramatic change in the final hours of the action, in a way that always seems to strike Toyota on the Circuit de la Sarthe. Follow the stories in every class as teams and drivers set out to make their mark on the history books. The challenge of driving at the limit through the night, hour after hour at speeds approaching 200mph on the straights, negotiating notorious corners with famous names such as Mulsanne, Indianapolis, Arnage, Esses and Terte Rouge where a momentary slip of concentration is enough to end hopes: all of the drama that makes Le Mans irresistible is here.

The 2020 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans provided a beacon of entertainment in a year that saw so much upset and gloom. Although there were no spectators on hand to enjoy the annual endurance test, the teams and drivers were no less focused and competitive than usual. Toyota led the charge in the final full year of the LMP1 category, whilst no fewer than 15 Oreca LMP2s crossed the line after 24 hours of racing. In the GTE classes there was extremely close racing all the way through the night and into the second day as Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin fought for dominance. The line-up of drivers throughout the field saw previous winners including Se´bastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, Kazuki Nakajima alongside talented racers such as Bruno Senna, Henry Tincknell, Paul di Resta and the all-female crew of Tatiana Calderon, Sophia Florisch and Beitske Visser.

The 2017 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans saw thrilling action from the moment Chase Carey waved the flag to get the race underway. The prestigious LMP1 class dominated the headlines with a stunning battle between polesitters Toyota and perennial favourites Porsche. However, for the 250,000 trackside fans the real entertainment was going on down the field in the GTE Pro race. In an incredible three-way, race-long struggle Aston Martin, Ford and Chevrolet ended up being separated by just seconds after a full 24 hours of tough but fair competition. As ever with Le Mans, the biggest enemy wasn’t the opposing drivers but simply attrition as the highly tuned cars operated at the sharp edge continuously for a full day and night. With cameras all around the course, and right in the pit lanes the official review will show you the most exciting action from the track and all the drama when crews had to rush to fix damage.

The 2015 24 heures du Mans saw a huge battle between German titans Audi and Porsche and Japanese giants Toyota and Nissan. Would Audi, who in recent years have made the Circuit de la Sarthe resound to the cheers of their supporters, or Porsche whose spiritual home is on the Mulsanne emerge triumphant, or could one of the Japanese factories achieve what Mazda did in 1991 and knock the Europeans of the top spot in their own back yards? How would the always fascinating GT dust-up sort itself out?

The Rothmans Porsches were back after missing the '84 race, but the trio of works 962Cs would not only be racing each other for victory. The Jaguar XJR-5s, factory Lancias and a strong field of privately-entered Porches would be chasing hard for the win. As the sun set, the first signs of the mechanical gremlins which would neutralise the works Porsche strategy appeared, with the 962C of Le Mans legend Jacky Ickx and Jochen Mass making the first of many stops for repairs. Both its sister cars would suffer their own problems, shattering any hopes of challenging for the win. As the dramatic film on this review records, nothing could prevent the Joest-entered Porsche of Klaus Ludwig, Paolo Barillia and John Winter romping to victory, ahead of the Lloyd Racing machine of British heroes Jonathan Palmer, James Weaver and Richard Lloyd.

Jaguar lined up five of the awesome Tom Walkinshaw-prepared XJR-9s in the determined hope of taking the British marque's first Le Mans victory in more than 30 years. However, the V12 Jags would have to overcome the trio of works Porsche 962Cs, as well as a huge number of privately-entered machines. Overheating, reliability problems and fuel consumption issues dented the challenges of both Porsche and Jaguar, leaving just one car from each marque battling for the win. With the end in sight, and the XJR-9 of Johnny Dumfries, Andy Wallace and Jan Lammers out in front, a sudden rain shower allowed the second-place Porsche of Derek Bell, Klaus Ludwig and Hans-Joachim Stuck to catch up. As the dramatic footage of this amazing duel shows, it was too little, too late. Nothing could stop Jaguar at last claiming victory.
