Director Leon de Winter has taken a thriller with political and psychological overtones, and scrambled it into a series of vignettes that are mixed-up in time and in location, thereby dashing any hope of following the story. A journalist goes to a southern European country to interview a well-known terrorist who has refused to stop his activities even though the revolution he fought for ended successfully five years earlier. Questions are raised about adopting violence as a way of life without at first realizing it and about the seeming impossibility of raising the consciousness of backwater cultures. Perhaps because of the way the story has been filleted into fragments, characters like the journalist and terrorist do not have enough continuous screen time to build up their individuality, a second factor that makes it difficult to become involved in the drama.

A boys love story about two musicians who are part of an orchestra. Considered as a musical genius, Tonoin Kei became the new conductor of Fujimi much to the disappointment of Morimura Yuuki who is the acknowledged leader of the group. Notes from the Front is a project distinguished by its original and innovative multi-disciplinary approach, which assembles arrangements of popular war songs of the period and original new music by Pordenone’s Zerorchestra with a chronologically complete, thematic review of film footage shot dal vero (“from life”) in war zones by Italian, Austro-Hungarian, and American cameramen. The visual material is set against readings of extracts from diaries kept by soldiers from the two armies. The various sources – musical, cinematic, and autobiographical – are combined to create a unique emotional experience, which simultaneously recounts the war, sheds light on propaganda techniques, compares them with soldiers’ accounts, and puts a modern slant on the music of the time inspired by the war.

De Armas' last production, La frontera (1967), is a cartoon with an implausible plasticity recreated from geometric figures. This anime evokes the geopolitical conflicts of “the border and ends up turning the disputed land into the space of both opponents. However, even though it is less introspective than other of his materials, La frontera is also a trigger for artistic experimentation.

1919, Russian Civil War. Siberia was united under the rule of the White Guard General Kolchak. Unwilling to recognize his power, 32 common villages from the Yenisei province declare themselves the independent Soviet Badja Republic. The Badja guerrillas, led by the hero of the WWI Pyotr Shchetinkin, quickly become a serious enemy for the White Guard.

Between 1944–1953, courageous resistance movement took place in the Baltic region of Europe, uniting the partisan troops for struggle against the Soviet Union. “The Invisible Front” was a coded name used by the Soviet Interior forces to describe the resistance movement in Lithuania. Film depicts the story of the fighters through the words and experience of the partisan leader, Juozas Luksa, and interviews with eyewitnesses of those events - both the partisans and the Soviet fighters. Tales of horror, torture and courage are told in the rare archival footage that has never been screened before, and interviews with the surviving members of the resistance movement.
