Sealed With A Kiss

In 1995, several cargo containers are discovered high in the Bolivian Andes. Inside are potentially toxic chemicals, and local policeman Mariscal soon becomes charged with the task of smuggling the containers into neighboring Chile. He recommissions an old train to haul the toxic waste out of Bolivia, but encounters one mishap after another, beginning with the local townspeople who know what's inside, halting the train's path.

One day, the Photographer arrives to document this everyday life. For him it turns out to be deadly complicated. The film is an absurd comedy about the unstoppable desire to see the surrounding through one's preconceptions.

There is a long tradition of hunting seals in Iceland. This film is about one such hunting trip on the South-east coast of Iceland where farmers catch the seals in nets in the glacial waters stemming from Vatnajökull, Europe's biggest glacier.

Her persistent refusal of marriage proposals coupled with her unseemly removal of her hood causes her family to seek the help of an exorcist, convinced she must be possessed by evil spirits. Made surreptitiously in 1977 just as the Ayatollah Khomeini regime was coming to power, a rough cut of ‘The Sealed Soil” was smuggled out of Iran by the director in a false-bottomed suitcase, and taken to the U.S., where she completed her final cut. The film has never been seen in Iran.

Wolfgang the Inquisitor found a heretic touched by an evil disease "The Scourge". This heretic named "The Priest" is none other than his mentor and friend. Wolfgang will have to choose between his feelings and his duty to protect humanity.

In La Nuit du Phoque ("The Night of the Seal") they "decided to try everything imaginable"; the 41 minutes are packed to the brim with wild and utterly incomprehensible visual and textual shifts, including special effects, graphic but sensual love scenes, a hilarious Busby Berkeley-style "revolutionary ballet", a superb avant-garde gay cabaret number sung by Philippe Danton – imagine a cross between Rocky Horror and the Trout Mask era Magic Band – and any number of absurd cameos (I particularly like the surprise appearance of Sir Isaac Newton, who scares the shit out of some kids playing in a local park). As a period piece La Nuit du Phoque is unbeatable, and it alone would make an impressive bonus.
