Everybody knows that Thomas Edison is one of the most prolific inventors in recorded history, but did you know he invented a virtual version of himself? According to this animated series he did. Along with his virtual self, Edison created a nearly complete robot, Von Bolt, who remained in a secret lab for years until 12-year-old science prodigy Angie found the lab after cracking the inventor's secret message. After discovering the lab, Angie and her friends explore the scientific world, with fun-loving Edison as their guide.

A six-part documentary recording the 74-year-old Edison's collaborations with his staff, conversations with industrial leaders, and supervision of the factory's production line. We enter the world of a century ago, a world lit by gaslight. It is Menlo Park, New Jersey in 1877. Thomas Edison and his team are completing work on a new invention - the phonograph. Edison is a renowned inventor and is hailed as "The Wizard of Menlo Park." He declares that he will invent a practical electric light, a light that will be safer and cleaner than gaslight.

In flashback, fifty years after inventing the light bulb, an 82-year-old Edison tells his story starting at age twenty-two with his arrival in New York. He's on his way with the invention of an early form of the stock market ticker.

Inventor Thomas Edison's boyhood is chronicled and shows him as a lad whose early inventions and scientific experiments usually end up causing disastrous results. As a result, the towns folk all think Tom is crazy, and creating a strained relationship between Tom and his father. Tom's only solace is his understanding mother who believes he's headed to do great things.
