We Are The Shield Saison 1

A film by Tomas Kaan about the friendship between 12-year old Jim and 10-year old Sam and the last summer they spend together before Jim goes to high school. A story about friendship, growing up and what it means to be a boy.

Frida Kahlo, Aung San Suu Kyi, Madonna, Elizabeth I, Judith. The heads of “strong women” from history are being stacked like a totem pole in this video. The artist appearing in a goddess-like form places the heads on the top of the pole, trying to balance them so that the tower does not collapse. From somewhere a divine voice calls the next name, and the artist kicks up to place the next woman’s head on the pole. The divine voice is actually the artist’s mother’s voice that has been digitally altered. This work was based on the artist’s own family background in which he was raised by a doting, feminist mother. In the personal myth that he creates, he attempts to visualize a unity with his strong mother’s image.

Earth after the war. The never-ending post-nuclear winter lingers - dust clouds raised by bomb explosions obscure the sun. The surface temperature of the Earth and the atmosphere is reduced, darkness prevents photosynthesis - plants and animals die. There is shortage of food - those few people who survived, walk with masks on to protect themselves from radiation. They are constantly scavenging the ruins of the cities in search of the things they need to survive: leftover food, clothing and medicines. Four wandering Musicians, walk the snow-covered street. Attracted by the glow coming from the windows of an abandoned industrial building they enter it. Amid the rubble, they see a levitating woman, bound by a chain to the ground. She is half-naked, has tattoos with strange patterns on her body, floating motionless in the air, her eyes are closed and her head is bowed down. When the Musicians get closer to the Angel, four Freaks come out of the ruins. They don't seem friendly.

The history of the Corps, from Colonial times to the present day (1942, that is). The film's midsection details the arduous training procedure of the Few and the Proud at Parris Island and elsewhere. Finally, wartime newsreel footage is adroitly blended with dramatized re-enactments to illustrate the contributions - and the utter necessity-of the marines in WW II.

When tribal feuds ignite a firestorm of violence, three surgeons unite for peace. Francis grew up with little schooling during the Sudanese Civil War. Ajak is a Lost Boy who has returned to the tribe he fled as a child. Both men are proteges of Glenn, a grizzled, but brilliant American surgeon.

When the owner of Hartman's Rock Club falls ill, his estranged family swoops into town to sell the club and collect the money. What they don't expect is a full-scale neighborhood rebellion by the eccentric musicians, drunks and drag queens that frequent the club.

The stories of four queer Asian women are presented within an immersive experience of past and present, revealing the real-lives of a different generation.

Chen Hao Yuan is an honor student with a mellow personality. His best friend Hong Cheng Yi, on the other hand, is delinquent who did time in juvenile detention for bank robbery. Together they helped their classmate get off drug addiction, exposed their teacher's dirty secrets, and even tried to find the bees that have gone missing because of the upcoming 2012 apocalypse. Their carefree attitude toward life turned to rage when they discovered that a corrupted politician was responsible for both of their families' misfortunes. The boys got a gun and decided to explode the day before their high school graduation.

M, a mystery writer, has a girlfriend of five years named F, who disappeared on Halloween night. When a woman comes and claims to be her sister, M begins the search for his girlfriend. Along the way, the people he meets describe a woman very unlike the F he knew.

A treasure appears in front of antique dealer Norio Koike (Kiichi Nakai) and potter Sasuke (Kuranosuke Sasaki). The treasure is Hideyoshi Toyotomi’s chawan (procelain tea bowl) called Houou, that has been missing.

The story revolves around an extended Thai Chinese family whose members' seemingly happy relationships devolve into conflict following murder of the eldest son and head of the family business.

A year has passed since Menma's ghostly return to the Super Peace Busters. Although the time they spent together during that summer was short, the five members reminisce about what happened as they each write a letter to their lost friend.

A coming of age story set in contemporary Los Angeles following teenage outsider Sadie who, uninspired by the dull humiliating rituals of sorority initiation, is devoted to her photography. Excluded from the school's social mainstream, she meets and befriends new girl and fellow social outcast Nico. Part Mary Quant and part Edie Sedgewick, Nico is obsessed with mid '60s Mod culture and manages to be a style icon despite having Milroy's disease and walking with a cane. The blossoming friendship between the girls introduces Sadie to entirely new experiences, pushing the young photographer far beyond her familiar suburban world.

In Sweden, there are 163,271 people with the surname Karlsson. All with different dreams and lives but with one thing in common, their last name. In the comedy series Alla vi Karlssons, we get to follow some of them and see what they struggle with.

Summer 1996. While chasing after a bicycle thief, Yang Xi (Wan Peng) hurts her leg and therefore can’t participate in the long-distance run to earn some bonus points for the college entrance exam anymore. When school starts again, Yang Xi not only has to discover that the offender is her new classmate Hua Biao (Hou Ming Hao), but he even snatches away her position as class monitor. The entire class considers the hot-blooded and impulsive newcomer Hua Biao who is gifted in sciences as their enemy. Hua Biao, however, proves them wrong as he continuously helps his classmates out. In the end, he becomes part of the “Five Flying Bicycles Group” and Yang Xi learns that he’s not only responsible and loyal, but also very respectful towards his grandma. Yang Xi finally lets go of her prejudices and the little group experiences their last year of high school together.

On 24th August 1992 in the eastern German city of Rostock a rampaging mob, to the applause and cheering of more than 3,000 bystanders, besieged and set fire to a residential building containing, among others, more than 120 Vietnamese men, women and children on what has since become known as "The Night of the Fire." The riots became a symbol for xenophobia in the just recently reunited Germany. This film recounts the incident from the perspectives of three very different characters.
