Petter von Malmborg has more cars than he can count. None of them works, but where everyone else sees a wreck he sees great potential. In this film he is surrounded by the women in his life, wife, daughters, and granddaughter who has little understanding for his passion for saving cars from the junkyard.
This is a story about a hunter named Valerik, who lives in a small Siberian village. He spends the whole winter in the forest with his dog Scythian, getting furs to feed his family. Valerik takes pictures of himself with a small digital pocket camera, so that later he can share his hunting adventures with his beloved wife Zina. He feels like the master of nature, but the forest in the form of a bear, follows in the footsteps of Valerik.

With this tribute to Harun Farocki, who died in 2014, Christian Petzold endeavors to revive and perpetuate the spirit, taste and methods of his former teacher and friend.
