You Are My Spring

In 2011, photographer Tanja Hollander decided to visit each one of her Facebook "friends" (all 626 of them) in their homes and make formal portraits of each of them. Armed with her cameras and iPhone, Tanja traveled throughout the U.S. and around the world for 5 years, meticulously documenting her experiences in real time and creating a historical narrative, both visual and written, along the way. Her project is an exploration of friendships, the effects of social networks, the intimate places we call home and the communities in which we live.

Besides Siao and Au, Woo Fung, still an active TV actor today, took up the role of Au’s once boyfriend, and Fanny Fan Lai and Roy Chiao, well-known for their roles in Mandarin films, took a bold step to partake in this Cantonese film. Director Chu Kea, best known for his period dramas, turned to a contemporary-set film this time, and successfully delivered the film’s sense of modernity, probably with help from his co-directors Ho Hoi-ki and Chu Yat-hung, who was his sister. The opening scene of an orchestra performance even reminds the audience of Hollywood movies.

In this university, there is a collective activity called BUDDYHERE that has been held for four years. It lasts for one semester and involves an appointed Budder who must take care of their assigned Buddy. The Budder is aware of who their Buddy is but not vice versa. The Buddy can even rate and guess the identity of their Budder. If guessed correctly, the Buddy gains the right to have the Budder care for them for the entire semester.

Pawut is the successor to a large company. Wanida is a secretary in a law firm. They both go on the same cruise, with Pawut planning to propose to Kaekai, his girlfriend, and Wanida planning on losing her virginity to her boyfriend. However, Wanida ended up taking cold medicine which made her drowsy and accidentally went to Pawut's hotel room, while he was drugged. They spent the night together.
