In Conversation With The Death King

Today in the 21st century, "singing" is no longer just a purely musical act. It can represent the pulse of society and put contemporary ideas into practice. To raise awareness about energy issues, we adopted a documentary-style cinematic approach to follow musicians recording an album close to nature. Eleven Meinong Conversations invites music producer and singer-songwriter Wing Lo to return to his sunny hometown of Meinong, a historic Hakka settlement in Taiwan, and fulfil a ten-year musical dream. Lo transforms a solar-powered wooden guest house into a recording studio to record his dream album in his Hakka mother tongue. The film conveys the passion of Lo’s Hakka music and his love of living life close to nature. Through eleven seemingly daily conversations with different characters, Lo’s pure and carefree rural childhood, his nostalgia of leaving home, and his loss of a beloved family member, are transformed into timeless, radiant melodies that touch the heart.

In his meetings with various different people, Jean-Luc Godard develops his thinking about history, politics, the cinema, images and time, and this will lead to his exhibition as an artist at the Pompidou Centre. Jean-Luc Godard’s conversations with Dominique Païni, Jean Narboni, André S. Labarthe, Jean-Marie Straub, Danielle Huillet and Christophe Kantcheff were filmed at his home in Rolle, in his study, at the Fresnoy National Studio for the Contemporary Arts (in front of students) and in the exhibition rooms of the Pompidou Centre.

Based on the conversations Jösta Hagelbäck and Erik Ostlund had with Lars Kristiansson, a professor of information theory with data communication at Chalmers University in Gothenburg, Sweden. The talks took place at the difficult cancer sufferer Kristiansson's sick-bed and dealt with his insights in computer technology, his hopes and fears for the new technology, the role of religion, the history of mathematics, reasoning about algebra, analytic geometry and the fourth dimension, along with cultural outlooks over the Western society's lack of mysticism and spiritual values.

The film portrait recounts the social and political repression of homosexuals in post-war Germany based on an interview with 95-year-old Erich Haas, who worked as a receptionist in hotels in Munich after the Second World War.

In this film, residents, workers in the metallurgical industry, peasants and Mapuches, talk about their expectations and their criticisms of the revolutionary process, reflecting in their comments and opinions the tensions that the country was suffering at this historical moment, a few months before the dramatic events of September 11, 1973.
