The original screeplay was written by Françoise Loranger. Hélène Pedneault adapted it in 1997 and Guy Fournier in 2000. The 1997 adaptation was directed by Maude Martin, and the 2000 by Yvon Trudel.

Pierre N'Gom, with this son, the lion cub, are the last descendants of a family of false lions. In the chaos of the popular celebration, and to the endless rhythm of drums, the lion and the cub attack the public to give vent to their aggressiveness. The false lion can be tamed only by the eloquence of the word.
It was while proceeding with the digital restoration of the film CHANTILLY produced in 1976 that the idea for this project came about. Originally the idea was to do a follow-up to the original film, a sort of unrolling of all the graphic elements of the "multi-screen" grid; but very quickly, another film came to the fore. The superimposition of 80 painted transparent celluloid gels and monochromes used for the backgrounds called for new elements to come from a different personal, contemporary reality.

Ultimately, Cartier skilfully allays the fears of party and sectional leaders, convincing them that federal union would protect, rather than weaken, Quebec’s cherished rights of language and religion. The eloquent and enigmatic Cartier was instrumental in shaping the Canada that was soon to emerge.
