Le Mystère De La Villa Rose

A documentary film about occupational diseases shot in 1957 at the Francolor factory in Oissel. It takes the form of a scientific investigation to discover the origin of a mysterious illness that has infected a worker at the factory.

Years after first being inspired by a Félix Leclerc song, Martine Chartrand directed the film MACPHERSON. Ten years in the making, it features animated painting on glass and draws on her extensive research on the title character. Filmmaker Serge Giguère was there from the start, carefully and sympathetically chronicling this exceptional creative process.

The film tells the story of the incredible fate of pianist Clara Haskil. She was celebrated very early as a prodigy. At the tender age of five, she was sent by her family from Bucharest to Vienna, and later, under the care of her strict uncle, to Paris to continue her studies. She will suffer from chronic health issues, survive two world wars, anti-Semitism, before having to go into exile in Vevey, Switzerland. In this interesting little drama we are brought in contact with a man who is one of the highly respected citizens of a little mountain village, while in reality he is living a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde existence. We see him leave his home and go on his way up into the mountain to hunt. When he reaches a remote part in the forest he takes a black cape and mask from under a rock and puts them on, thus concealing his identity.
