Valentin, the general supervisor of a sub-prefecture cram school, has a strange power: all he has to do is wish for a certain person to turn into a bird, and the metamorphosis takes place and his victims grow wings. Ruwaysched is a no man's land at the border. The last village in Jordan before Iraq... I went there without a real scenario. I was looking for a story for my film for a couple of days until Anne-Marie, the director of photography, played a song for me from an Iraqi-Palestinian band while our car stalled at the Iraqi border. One day, the decision is made: Amel, a 12-year-old orphan, will leave. This is by no means a matter of choice: her country is at war. Unfortunately, nothing goes as planned. At the border, Amel loses the family who are accompanying her and finds herself alone. Along her way, she meets Bacem, an army deserter and oud (oriental lute) player. Together, the child and the former soldier navigate through the pain of exile and learn to rebuild themselves.

One evening, she finds herself locked up after closing time. She is not alone in the zoo that night. An unlikely and magical encounter may help her find a new lease on freedom.

The picture shows various kinds of birds in their natural environments, and in their natural colors, and at such close range that the very eyes of the little fledglings in the nest are easily discerned.
