At Kumbh Mela, the world’s largest congregation of religious pilgrims, a troupe of theatre actors stage a play based on an origin myth of Hinduism – the churning of the cosmic ocean. The legend tells of an epic battle between the gods and the demons for an elixir of immortality. The mela (or fair) is celebrated at the site where the elixir was believed to have fallen. Today, millions of Hindu pilgrims gather there to bathe in the holy river over a two-month period.

They get their food and income directly and indirectly through fishing and other related works like seafood trading, fishnet mending, and fish processing.

A couple and their son and daughter struggle through their divorce. The children try to cope after moving away to their grandparents', who live by the ocean, with the help of fairy tales that are told to them.

Nobody knows the exact number of Portuguese fishermen that died in the cod fishing campaigns, during the dictatorship decades of the XXth century. Buried in the sea, or in faraway places in Newfoundland and Greenland, those sailors were left behind by the same country that glorified their role in the national efforts to rebuild the image of Portugal as a Country of seamen and navigators. Telling the stories of some of these anonymous men is our way of rescuing them from the oblivion, and of taking them – or their memory, at least - back home.

She also meets Tan, a photographer who always helps her when she has problems, and with whom she eventually falls in love. Wan soon realizes that her new-found powers come with a price; she's not a normal girl. Her body will be transferred into a kind of creature when she gets into the water. Once again, it's Tan who must help Wan figure out what's going on with her body without knowing that a mysterious secret awaits him under the sea.
