Working from the premise that there is no such thing as safe sex, this film is designed as an arcane storybook with each sexual act being contained within a 100 ft.-roll of film. A structural film with content, each roll contains layers of sexual illusion amid subliminal messages created by in-camera effects. The soundtrack starts from a single cat's purr and is manipulated with each sexual act, creating a climatic fever sounding like a buzzing chainsaw.

This installation is based on two texts that discuss the act of translating war and resilience, the intricacies of the wars in Syria and Iraq, mediated through testimony. The video merely shows a color: purple, projected on a mirrored screen that allows the viewer to see their own reflection, to see themselves within the subtitled text. Lina Mounzer’s essay ‘War in Translation: Giving Voice to the Women of Syria’ weaves the testimonies she is translating with her own personal experience of living through the civil war in Lebanon. Stefan Tarnowski’s essay ‘Subtitling a Film’ describes the intricacies of translating subtitles for the anonymous film collective Abounaddara and the special collaborative process of working for someone he has never met. Tarnowski uses this experience to reflect on the role of the subtitle, the details lost in translation, and what additional elements and contradictions are created by the differences between subtitles and image.
aka Aquarian Age: The Movie, is based on the popular Japanese CCG (that's collectable card game, for you gaming neophytes), Aquarian Age. The movie represents the transition between the game's first and second Sagas and seems to have been made primarily for fans of the card game, so familiarity with the basic story and characters is assumed. Those watching the movie without first reading the background info in the included booklet are going to be totally lost about what's going on, as the movie begins right in the middle of the climatic battle which wraps up the first Saga. Though it uses the same organizations as the Aquarian Age TV series, the movie does not seem to be directly related to the TV series in any way. (I cannot absolutely confirm this, however, since I only ever saw the first few episodes of the TV series.)

GETTING HIT BY MATURITY IN THE AGE OF #WHATTHEFUCKSHALLWEDOWITHOURLIVES deals with the issues of the so-called Millenials and their utter shock of suddenly having crossed the unofficial threshold to “real” adulthood, their 30th birthday.
