One day a mail with a stranger's name arrived. Come to think of it, something similar happened in the past. It was a letter to someone who lived in my house. He must have been a tenant like me, so he might be receiving a mail delivered incorrectly like me somewhere. By the time the mail piled up and the name became familiar, it occurred to me to write a letter to the person. To the person who shared the same space as me, the person who saw what I see, the person who was the owner of the trace I lived in.

In the summer of 1920, the staff of the Rembrandt Theatre in Amsterdam went on strike, which was especially unfortunate for the management of the theatre, since they had invited the German film stars Ossi Oswalda, Marga Köhler, and Victor Janson to the Dutch premiere of their film Wohnungsnot (Ernst Lubitsch, 1920). For this special occasion, there were even two extra segments shot with Ossi Oswalda playing the lead role. In one of those films, we see how Oswalda, dressed in traditional Volendam costume, cheerfully makes contact with the local inhabitants. But not every Volendammer seems charmed by the advances of the German diva. Because of the strike, the film could only be screened one time in the presence of the three stars.
In its first 80 years of activity, the Autonomous Institute for Social Housing (IACP) created in Rome a veritable "city within the city", to face what has always represented, and still represents, "the most serious problem facing Rome: the housing problem." What is this "city within the city" made of? Who is not included in their raw concrete? And how was this social architecture judged by the underprivileged men and women of the Roman people, active in the daily struggle for a house still to be expected, or too expensive to pay? First of all they teach those who are still in search of a house how to fight against and while waiting, but they also teach us that the fight for the right to housing is an unfinished struggle and therefore still recent, which is articulated and exhibited through the archives of the past and the archives of the present.
