Looted by Russian occupational forces between 24 and 26 October 2022, the Kherson Museum of Local Lore used to house Southern Ukraine's largest and oldest collections of antiquities. The museum featured more than 173000 objects, spanning seven thousand years, from Scythian gold to World War II weaponry. Two weeks before Kherson was liberated by the Ukrainians, Russian occupational forces enacted a strategic theft, stripping centuries of Ukrainian history from the museum/region. The sound of shellings and missile strikes was recorded during filming inside the museum on December 12, less than two kilometers away from russian-occupied territory.

In ancient settlements on the banks of the great Yenisei, the traditions of personal, personalized museums are being revived. For the tourists of the cruise ship, this is a far distance and wild exotic, and for the indigenous people it is their homeland.

The ensuing row involved diametrically opposed points of view. Was it a violation of the principle of inalienability of France’s national collections or was it a just reparation for the victims of colonization? The rich countries’ great museums and the countries of origin have completely different visions of the issue. The museums defend the idea of a universal museum whose works belong to the whole of humanity.

In her village in Panama, Senobia saw art in everything. Put a broken umbrella on a bottle and you have the head of a wild man. A stick plus a plastic cup becomes a bird. She turned her house into “The Museum of Antiquities of All Species.” There are old telephones and computers, and hanging everywhere are cards on which she wrote her thoughts. Her last wish: to keep everything in her museum as it is.

For 60 years, the artist Mikhail Shemyakin has been creating his "Imaginary Museum", where he explores the interrelationships in art of all times and peoples. About the archive, which was hidden from outside eyes in a French castle until 2023, about the project that combines art and technology, the author himself, the project managers and curators, Big Data ideologists, IT specialists and employees of the Tretyakov Gallery, where an exhibition dedicated to the "Imaginary Museum" opened at the end of June 2023.
