The Other Side of the Atlantic is a documentary that builts a bridge in the ocean that separates Brazil and Africa. The film tackles the cultural exchanges, the imaginary created through the mirroring, the prejudice and dreams built in both sides of the atlantic through the life stories of the students of african countries in transit through Brazil.

Nando, a 12 year old boy, narrates the adventures of his father Antonio, during the 60s in Brazil, who leaves the inland of the state of Minas to go to Brasília, a recently inaugurated city, but still with construction works in progress.

Itsuki, who lives on welfare with her sick mother and baby sister, has given up on her dream of becoming a nurse and been hopeless for the future. One day, a transfer student named Kazuma, who has a secret about falling behind in his previous private middle school, joins Itsuki’s class. He also struggles under pressure from his elitist father. Sparked by this encounter, they break out of their circumstances and gradually find hope for the future on their own, involving many adults around them.
