The Vanishing Point

Lucie Audibert, a student of Art History, does research work on Watteau and is certain that a hidden sense that nobody has ever deciphered can be found in a few of his paintings. The further she explores this the more Professor Jean Dussart - for unclear reasons - tries to discourage her.

A woman sitting in a chair hears the doorbell ring. She stands up, steps toward the door, and swings it open, only to find emptiness greeting her. This recurring ritual is a silent testament to the enduring wait that seems to stretch into eternity.

Byun explores the disappearance and creation of spaces through continuous movement. The principle of perspective is seen as a vanishing point. In this work, vanishing points of photos are moved to one vanishing point in the frame of the video. Similarly, a landscape’s multiple points of view are conveyed as a 360‐degree globe form of time and space.
