"Où en êtes-vous?" is a collection initiated by Centre Pompidou, who asked directors to make retrospective and introspective films.

Once he learns of the Jews’ plans, Mustapha, the bar-owner, panics; if all the non-Muslims leave, the Law will make him close the bar. How will he avoid such a disaster? In this comedy, a mathematician is so bored and burnt-out with his career that he rebels, first by crawling under a table during an interminable faculty meeting and then by throwing his telephone away, locking his wife out of their apartment, and running off on his own. At this point, the comedy takes a turn when the rebellious mathematician follows a strange wheel and meets a goatherd who shelters him in his humble abode. Events change from a bit odd to totally bizarre as the mathematician continues on his journey of escape.

This tragicomic parable mingles different registers, weaving together biblical, vulgar, fairy tale and literary references, attempting to strike an impossible balance between holiness and blasphemy, faith and cynicism.

Michio Okabe's only 8mm film, which was miraculously discovered in 2021 at the back of a closet in his room, after being unaccounted for and thought lost for a long time. He tied an 8mm camera around the neck of his dog Shiro and recorded the world as seen from the dog's point of view. Okabe's anarchy, in which he abandoned-looking through the viewfinder himself and let the dog shoot the film, is the quintessence of Okabe's work.
