This documentary follows a number of French women prisoners during the time of their imprisonment and after their release. Many of them are "in" for minor drug and prostitution-related offenses, and at least half of them are HIV positive. One woman promises she will kill herself before her beauty fades from the AIDS syndrome: two years later the filmmaker captures her, wan and wasted, but out of prison. Most of these women have grave difficulties finding work or housing when they are released, and are forced to resort to the same desperate measures that got them incarcerated in the first place.

Georges Legrand is a young unscrupulous reveler. He seduces Fred, a woman doctor before shamelessly dumping her for Aline Ribourg, a tennis player. Soon fed up with his new conquest, he returns to Fred. But Aline is pregnant from him. Showing an admirable sense of self-sacrifice, Fred manages to persuade Georges to marry Aline.

A foray into the singular world of forest encampments where, for work, women and men from here and elsewhere meet. It is through the eyes of women who have chosen to work there that we will discover these micro-societies that are formed over the sivicultural seasons.

Femmes d’Anvers en novembre is a dual projection piece rich in atmosphere and charm, filled with references to early French and American film noir – a deliberate homage, shot in close-up and medium close-up, to the smoking woman. The focus on the everyday activities of women (the core trope of Akerman’s masterpiece Jeanne Dielman) is a recurring theme in much of her work; Femmes d'Anvers signals a return to this motif. In it, Akerman tackles the thorny question of a person’s fundamental freedom to choose what to do with his or her body.

Paris has the unique distinction of possessing women cabbies; the scheme of making them chauffeurs (or, more properly, "chauffeuses") meets with rather disastrous results, as is shown in this extremely funny picture. Business is bad and one of the female cabbies reads an "ad" in the newspaper calling for women chauffeurs, so she goes to the garage and gets the job. Getting into the auto, she starts out and makes for the railway station, where there is a good opportunity to do a record business. Her first passengers load into the machine and, after giving directions to the lady in charge, she starts down the street.

Brahim a master craftsman, is one of the richest men in the country. He takes a third wife, Fadah, a young beautiful girl, hoping that she will give him an heir before he is too old.
