After young Tutu kills a bear to save his little brothers life, he is considered an outcast as bears are sacred to the Lonki tribe. Years later Tutu and Linzi struggle to get by and work as lumberjacks near the forest they grew up in. When they both fall for the same woman, it drives the brothers apart. While Linzi connects more and more with nature and the forest, Tutu chooses another path. Through their story, we experience the deep connection of all living things and witness the mysterious retribution wrought by nature on humans who wound it. The film gives us an opportunity to contemplate our relationship with Mother Earth.

This work was created at the "Ginza Shoeikai Art Festival" event held in June 2014 in Fussa City, Tokyo, as part of a workshop that allowed visitors to experience up-close the rotoscope animation technique. Visitors drew each piece by hand. The complete short film consists of those joined individual sketches.
Te Wei, an artist famous for blending Chinese painting into animations, has produced countless award-winning animations in his career since 1950s. The present collection compiles 4 titles by him, all adapted from famous Chinese fairy tales or fables. Some of his works, such as A Tadpole Looking for Mom (1960) and Love for Mountain and Water (1988), have won awards locally and overseas, from the prestigious Hundred Flowers Awards in China to even the Cannes Film Festival. Te Wei's art demonstrates a very different aesthetics from Western animations, which are characterized by their refined lines and elaboration patterns. On the other hand, he sometimes borrows from famous Chinese painting in portraying his characters. His works, which are indeed animated classical Chinese paintings, will offer a refreshing experience for children and grown-ups alike.
